Adult Class - Skateboard Coaching + Mental Resilience Training

Class Description

A weekly 90-minute class designed to help adults learn and apply resilience skills while learning to skateboard. No prior experience required. Skateboarding instruction focuses on balance, coordination, and skateboarding fundamentals. Participants will develop confidence as they learn to push, ride, and maneuver their board on flat ground and on small ramps and obstacles. Each skateboard lesson includes a 10-12 minute breakout training on one of our six pillars of mental growth: Community, Purpose, Mindset, Confidence, Goals, and Focus. This program welcomes adults who are eager to learn how to skateboard.

Q&A

Do you have skateboard equipment to rent/borrow?

Yes, Carry On provides skateboards, helmets, and padding free of charge for participants to borrow during class.

If my child is absent from one of the classes, can I get a refund? Does Carry On offer make up classes?

Unfortunately, Carry On is unable to provide financial refunds for missed classes. However, we’re pleased to offer one makeup class at the end of the season program to ensure participants don’t miss out.

If you know in advance that you’ll be absent for a scheduled class, we kindly ask that you notify Carry On staff by texting 801-477-7875.

For those who miss a class, you will receive a personal invitation to attend the makeup session. To maximize efficiency, we often combine multiple program classes into a single makeup class. Please note that only one makeup class is offered per program. The date and time of the makeup class will be listed under the "Important Notes" section directly above this description.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

When buying skateboard equipment, what do you recommend?

We encourage you to purchase equipment from reputable skateboard companies to ensure quality and safety. For beginners, we recommend starting with a "complete" skateboard, which includes all the essential components—deck, trucks, and wheels—preassembled for convenience. As skateboarders progress and develop their skills, they may choose to build a custom skateboard tailored to their preferences.

Carry On proudly uses ZERO Skateboards, a high-quality brand we trust, and we value our partnership with professional skateboarder Jamie Thomas.

We are also thrilled to partner with our local skateboard shop, Board of Provo, to provide discounted equipment for Carry On participants. Registered program members receive a 15% discount on skateboard equipment. Simply inform the checkout employee at Board of Provo that you’re part of Carry On programs. Board of Provo is located at: 465 N University Ave, Provo, UT 84601

About Carry On

Carry On Mission

To support youth (and adults) in their mental health by utilizing action sports to teach resilience skills and foster the development of competence, confidence, connection, and character.

Carry On Approach

A Proactive Approach: The Carry On program was created to proactively promote mental wellness by helping youth develop resilience. Our model utilizes action sports as a performance exposure context in which youth can learn and apply mental performance skills to overcome obstacles and challenges thus gaining competence and self-efficacy.

Educating youth about healthy mental habits is critical to the Carry On approach. Each class includes 10-15 minutes to teach mental protocols for performance and healthy living. Youth learn to apply mental skills in context as they meet the natural resistance from committing to skateboard challenges.

As they persevere in learning, coaches train youth to process their experiences and form positive perceptions about adversity and beliefs about their own ability to persist through it. Educate->Exposure->Reflect->Progress is the model to building resilience in youth.
